faq

Is this an authentic Māori cultural experience?

Yes. This tour is mana whenua (local tribal authority)-led and grounded in Māori values. We share stories appropriate for manuhiri (visitors) — nothing sacred, nothing restricted.

Do you visit the marae?

We respectfully view the marae (tribal meeting place) from public areas only. We’ll talk about the role of the marae in modern day contexts but we will not enter the marae facility, or go inside. We have sought permission from the tribal leadership to be able to make this a part of our tour.

What should I wear?

Layers, comfortable shoes, jacket — Murihiku weather can change quickly. We will be getting in and out of the van - so clothing that is not restricting would be best.

Do you operate in all weather?

We operate in most conditions. High winds or unsafe weather may require rescheduling.

Can children join?

Yes — it’s a family-friendly tour. Children must be supervised by their parents/guardians at all times.

Do you offer private tours?

Yes, subject to availability.

How physically active is the tour?

We stop regularly for photo opportunities and to highlight important locations, and there will be light walking suitable for most fitness levels. The only slightly longer walk is a short, gradual track up to the summit of Bluff Hill/Motupōhue — but if that feels too much, there are still spectacular views right from the carpark.

If you have serious mobility challenges, you are welcome to remain inside the van during stops — the experience is fully enjoyable from within the vehicle. Please note that the van does not have wheelchair access, but we are very happy to assist people in and out of the vehicle if needed.
